Charity begins with the package negotiations

Can charities smash the glass ceiling?

If there wasn't an outfit in today's Britain called 'The Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations', one would have to be invented, not least to commission surveys on their relative pay.

Otherwise one would not learn that a female CEO struggles by on a median salary of £48,543. Especially when they are enduring the stress of managing so many who are serving the same organisation for less comparable rewards.

As with august bodies such as the government and the BBC, it is of course true that one has to compete with market rates to get the talent.

How's that working out?
