The flawed, but still best system we have?

Ah, democracy.

Britain's electoral system unfairly gerrymandered in favour of Labour

This inevitably skewed piece raises a critical point: it's quite easy to use democracy to corrupt and bind it up, but rather trickier then to use it to unpick what's happened.

I recall the student union of my Uni was rather, how to say, 'extreme' in its views, which were not exactly representative of the majority of the student body.

Trouble was, the activists from the minority faculties sussed out rather quickly what the rules were, and used their 2 hr a week schedules to great effect against our 9-5 all-day lectures & labs, with various quorums and whatnot.

It was only when they used funds for an 'African adventure' that were earmarked for a booze-up that we took a morning off and kicked them out. For a while.

It was at this point I realised that democracy is very flawed, and by no means the best system we have. At least as it stands.
